Keepers not feeding? Check access before hiring more
Watch where the feeding sequence stops. An idle keeper outside a disconnected hut needs a different check from a keeper who can reach the habitat but never resumes feeding.
The short answer
Inspect the Keeper Building entrance and actual path join, then compare whether other staff can enter the habitat. If access appears valid, a saved-copy test of a rebuilt work zone is a reported next step. These checks helped some players and failed for others; hiring more keepers alone did not solve the original report.[1]
Observe the route, not just the staff count
Possible_Ask_6214’s 14 October Franchise report describes animals starving despite repeated requests. The questioner already had nearby huts, trained staff and more than twenty keepers. More hiring was therefore not a demonstrated solution in that case.[1]
- Choose one affected habitat and one assigned keeper so you can compare the same route.
- Inspect the door side of the Keeper Building and the short path joining it to the network. A building can look close while its entrance faces away.
- Look for a kerb or discontinuity at the join. Check the habitat gate as well.
- Compare whether a vet or mechanic can enter. Failure across staff types points your next inspection toward shared access; it does not prove a specific AI bug.
What players actually reported
| Check | Reported result | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Replace a suspect path join | DaftAlien said a bad keeper-hut join caused idle staff and replacing the path helped. | The original questioner tried this without success. |
| Check the building entrance direction | Appropriate_Ad_7827 found the Keeper Building entrance facing away from the road. | One player’s explanation, not a cause established for all cases. |
| Recreate a complete work zone | Medical_Orchid_ reported feeding and cleaning resumed after replacing their zones with one including everything. | The original questioner said deleting zones alone had not helped. Reassignment and deletion are not the same test. |
| Hire many more keepers | The questioner hired more than twenty and kept huts nearby. | No recovery established from additional headcount. |
These are named outcomes from the same discussion, not four independently tested fixes. The thread was directly readable on 16 October; the players’ precise game builds were not stated.[1]
Try a work-zone change without losing your baseline
If the access checks do not reveal a problem, save a separate copy and record your present assignments. On that copy, check that the zone includes the affected habitat and the staff facilities it needs, then assign the keeper and observe again. The reported broad-zone recreation is an experiment for this symptom, not a recommended permanent layout for every zoo.
Change one thing at a time. Otherwise a later feeding animation cannot tell you whether the path, assignment or elapsed simulation time made the difference.
When the checks do not restore feeding
Stop repeatedly adding staff or demolishing more facilities if the same route still fails. Keep the save, platform, build, habitat species, keeper assignment and before/after observations for Frontier Support · Planet Zoo 2 issue report ↗ (external site, opens in a new tab).
We have not reproduced this issue. A player’s suggestion to move everything into a new zoo is not a verified recovery and is not part of this checklist. If the entire Franchise session is unavailable, start with connection checks instead of diagnosing feeding inside an inaccessible zoo.
