How to change water temperature in Planet Zoo 2

Start with the kind of water you are trying to heat. A pond pump and an aquarium’s controls are different places to look.

The short answer

For an aquarium, select its staff gate and look for the habitat’s environment settings. For water in a regular habitat, inspect the relevant pump. If the aquarium control is missing while paused, briefly run the simulation and check again: players report both success and failure.[1][2][3]

Choose the right control

What you seeCheck firstHow strong is the evidence?
Aquarium water needs adjustingSelect the Aquarium Staff Gate, then inspect the environment/temperature controls.[1]A Steam player points to this control. The exact tab number was uncertain; do not rely on a numbered-tab shortcut.
Otter habitat water is too coldInspect the pump serving that body of water rather than repeatedly moving a land heater.[3]The original Reddit questioner confirmed finding the setting on the pump. This is one reported setup, not every water-system layout.
The aquarium setting is absentUnpause for a few seconds, then reopen the aquarium environment panel.[2]The questioner confirmed success; another commenter said it did not work. Use it as a quick check, not a guaranteed fix.

Choose the branch that matches the selected object. If you are clicking a pump while troubleshooting an aquarium, switch to the aquarium gate before deciding that the control is missing.

Adjust, then check the result

  1. Identify the affected habitat and animal. Keep the existing layout while you locate the relevant control.
  2. Use the aquarium or regular-water branch above. Read the temperature target shown for your species in the game rather than copying a temperature from a different animal.
  3. Change the setting, let the simulation advance, and inspect the displayed water temperature and the animal’s welfare again.
  4. If the control remains absent, record the habitat type, selected object and whether the game was paused. That distinguishes a missing control from a setting that is present but not taking effect.

This sequence helps you compare like with like: changing a control, seeing a temperature change, and seeing welfare recover are separate observations. A successful menu check does not prove that every other habitat requirement is satisfied.

If unpausing does not reveal the setting

In goaterra’s campaign report, emkie suggested unpausing; goaterra confirmed that this resolved the missing option. Galyeftherios reported no success with the same suggestion. The source therefore supports a reported workaround, not a universal cause.[2]

Do not keep draining the tank or rebuilding the habitat solely because this first check failed. Save a separate copy before experimenting with a substantial rebuild, and keep a screenshot of the missing panel for support.

Version note: Frontier’s 1.0.4 notes mention changes to animal-temperature calculations and notifications. They do not establish that every missing-control case is resolved. The community cases above were posted during the launch window.[4]
