Add and remove Waterlogged terrain without digging a pond

Use this tool for the wet-ground requirement. Raising an aquarium wall or changing filtration will not locate the terrain-paint control.

The short answer

Open Terrain → Terrain Paint and find Waterlogged below the ordinary terrain paints. Paint the area you need; to clear it, use the remove-mode button added in 1.0.4. A PC guide also reports R for switching modes. Waterlogged ground is separate from a full body of water.[1][2][3]

An animal needs a body of water or deep waterInspect that separate requirement; this wet-ground brush is not evidence of usable swimming depth.

Josh Challies’ 15 October Prima Games explanation treats Waterlogged as a surface effect over the underlying terrain. Its example preserves sand coverage rather than replacing it with a pond.[1]

Locate the brush and add wet ground

  1. Open the Terrain tools using the mountain icon.
  2. Choose Terrain Paint, the paintbrush tab.
  3. Scroll down past the regular paint types to Waterlogged, near Snow.
  4. Set the brush area and intensity for the patch you want, then paint.
  5. Inspect the selected habitat or Ecosystem requirement after the change.

These menu steps come from Prima Games’ illustrated launch guide. This site has not verified controller button equivalents, so follow the on-screen tool labels on console.[1]

Remove the effect, then check the edge

Frontier’s 1.0.4 notes confirm a button for switching Waterlogged and Snow terrain into removal mode. Power Up Gaming’s 15 October PC instructions also describe R to switch between adding and removing.[2][3]

  1. Keep Waterlogged selected and choose removal mode using the visible control.
  2. Brush a small part of the unwanted wet patch and check that it clears.
  3. Continue along the edge; if you clear too much, switch back to add mode and repaint that section.

A keybind can differ after remapping. If R has no effect, inspect the displayed tool control instead of assuming you must flatten the ground.

If the animal still needs something else

Check which requirement remains unsatisfied. Waterlogged coverage, ordinary terrain composition and deep water are different observations. A cleared patch proves the brush changed the ground; it does not establish that an aquarium has filtration or that every animal can swim there.

For a Wildlife Reserve, select the destination Ecosystem you are preparing before comparing its requirements. Our release-readiness guide separates the environment from the animal group.
