Prepare the release group and its Wildlife Reserve

Keep the zoo-side animal checks and reserve-side environment checks separate. This is a readiness route, not a universal species quota or a complete reserve roster.

The short answer

A Wildlife Reserve release needs both an eligible Release Group and a ready destination Ecosystem. Research the species, inspect its own group requirements, then prepare the matching environment. A group being created does not by itself mean it can already be released.[1][2]

Reserve release or the ordinary release action?

Josh Challies’ 13 October Insider Gaming guide distinguishes Release Groups for Wildlife Reserves from the separate release action on an animal’s panel. Do not assume that using the latter sends an animal into the reserve you wanted to manage.[1]

Choose your destination first. If your goal is a reserve’s population or Ecosystem, keep that reserve and the corresponding group requirements in view while preparing the animals.

Prepare the group in your zoo

  1. Research the species with your vets until its Release Group information is available.
  2. Read the group’s conditions. Species differ: a single animal, a pair or a larger composition may be required.
  3. Compare the actual animals with those conditions rather than copying another species’ sex ratio.
  4. Keep the group available while you complete the destination checks; creating it is not proof that every later condition has passed.

Insider Gaming describes research gates and species-specific groups. We do not turn its “tend to” research-level description into a universal level-four rule.[1]

Prepare the destination Ecosystem

In the 15 October “Releasing to wild” discussion, Grin83 describes marking Ecosystem areas, checking their terrain and plants, and then releasing a species-appropriate group. The same reply reports having released wild hogs, with other groups still being bred. That is a player’s described sequence, not our completed playthrough.[2]

Choose the suitable Ecosystem for the intended species and read its current requirements. PZ2 Animals’ sourced preparation checklist additionally identifies pollution, invasive plants and the balance of water, foliage and terrain as environment checks. Its official source pages could not be reopened here, so those details remain attributed to that checklist rather than a claim that we reviewed the original video.[3]

The first two sources support the separation of group and environment. The order above is our decision checklist; it is not a guarantee against launch bugs.[1][2]

Keep the next check specific

Record the selected species, reserve, group status and exact unmet condition. If the problem is a Waterlogged requirement, use the terrain-paint steps. If you cannot enter Franchise at all, resolve that connection issue before interpreting the release interface.
